DAY 12 – Travelling From North to South

After a 4 hour bus journey from Pai to Chiang Mai airport I had 3 hours to kill. I got some blogging done and had some curry. I was disapointed to see someone sat in my seat on the plane, but being the upstanding citizen that I am, I offered to sit in their sitting middle sit while they had my lovely window seat. I will never, ever do this again.

Aside from the really loud American family behind me with one child in particular kicking my chair the whole flight, the man next to me was very stinky so I must say this journey was not a highlight of my trip so far. However, I arrived in Krabi (based off of Cousin Lee’s reviews). I paid 100 baht (£2) to get to Ao Nang where I was staying, there are lots of options for transfers when you get to Krabi airport.

AO NANG TOWN. A STOP OVER POINT FOR MOST TRAVELLERS AS THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN POINTS TO GET TO THE ISLANDS

I arrived at K-Bunk Hostel based off of Meggie’s recomendation and was pleased to learn that there was free dinner this night (chicken and rice). I made friends with a Norweigan guy called Henrich and we went to grab some mango rice and mango roti from one of the places down the road.

My initial thoughts of Krabi were:

  1. The vibes were a bit weird.
  2. There’s a really sour smell everywhere.
  3. Lots and lots of tourists (think Lanzarote in Thailand).
  4. The restaurants and sales people are quite hassley which is something i have yet to experience.

DAY 13 – Seeking Out Tattoos

I woke up at 8.30 and thought I would spend the morning at Ao Nang beach at the end of the road. You can imagine my disappointment when the tide was too high to swim and my thai tea was too sweet. In normal 1st day in a new place style, i mooched. I found a lovely tattoo place and booked in for the next day. On my way back i stopped in at a restaurant and had some glass noodles.

THEY EVEN PUT MY CHANG IN A COOLER WHICH I REALLY APPRECIATED

I went back to the hostel and had a couple of cold ones in the pool. Most of the people had gone on a kayaking tour which I opted not to go to because it was a rip off, and i was pleased to hear from Norweigan Henrich that it was at an artificial/fake mangrove lake. This meant i had the pool to myself AND I didn’t get FOMO. No Whammys.

DROPPING THE KIDS OFF AT THE POOL

I met a really cool Dutch girl called Thirza (cool name too). We watched the sunset, grabbed some dinner at the night market and went for some drinkies after. We also managed to catch a fire show at the beach.

DAY 14 – Premier Beachy Vibes

Thirza and I woke up for a sunrise swim but may have left it a bit late as the sun was mostly up at 6.15. We also realised that the sun doesn’t rise on the side of Krabi we were on, but the views were beautiful nonetheless. We grabbed some breakfast and headed off to Railay Beach.

RAILAY BEACH – 10 MINUTE LONG BOAT RIDE FROM AO NANG (£4 RETURN)

Due to our early start it was super quiet on the beach so we had a couple of gorgeous swims. Thirza also let me borrow a page in her sktechbook to practice some watercolours.

ATTEMPT AT LANDSCAPE

I then headed off to get some tattoos (stopping off for a rather nice thai tea en route)! It took about 8 hours in total to finish 3 tattoos. The man gave me a free t-shirt, ordered me some fried rice and then his brother dropped me home. Proper result.

After an uncomfortable few hours, i went for one final drink with Thirza, packed my bag and prepared for my journey to a small, more quiet island of Koh Lanta the next morning!

Some extra pics for you

Krabi, it’s been a pleasure… but i am ready to leave this shitting hostel in exchange for a boujie, solo bungalow. Koh Lanta here I come.
