DAY 22 – From One Island to Another
I hopped on an early taxi to make the ferry for 8am from Koh Lanta. There was a French family on it but I didn’t chat to them too much (too early). We then picked up a French lady who then started speaking to me and I had to divulge that I was actually earwigging this French family the whole time because my comprehension is just tres Francais. I ended up spending the whole journey with lovely Stephanie who shared stories of her 4 sons and her solo travels. She said she was happy to be my maman for the journey. We were both gob smacked coming into Koh Phi Phi, it truly is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
I was actually very pleased when they collected 40p from us when we stepped off the ferry because this tourist tax helps them to keep the island clean and free from litter.
After dropping my bags off in my shitty apartment (Sea Shell Hut – it was very central to be fair) I wandered to the beach. It was breathtaking, just like a post card. You can walk through the main bit of the island in an hour (either side of this is rainforest), it’s absolutely brimming with shops but also very busy and touristy. I had heard 2 days is enough time to spend in Phi Phi.
I relaxed on the beach all day and Teigan (who I had met in Lanta) turned out to be coming to Phi Phi the same day so we decided to meet up. There is a bar where you can basically Muay Thai fight someone else from the audience, and then you get a free bucket, absolute scenes. Stayed here for a good few hours having a few coldies with the Dutch girl next to us. After this we hit the bars then the beach clurb and danced all night.
DAY 23 – Recovery and Part 2?
I woke up feeling very far from my usual shining star self. After waking up at 8.30 and heading for a lie down at the beach I decided that it was time for recovery. I found myself a new hyper fixation drink of passion fruit juice soda (60p), it was like a fizzy version of bubble tea (without the bubbles) and I hold her fully accountable for perking me up on this sunny morning.
I managed to find the most delicious breakfast I have had yet. I can’t remember the name but if you head down the main bit of the island towards Slinky Bar you will see it on your left. This cinnamon toast with cream and fresh fruit was truly one of the nicest things I have ever had.
I went back to the beach to crack on with my book called ‘Three Women’ by Lisa Taddeo. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in ages (as recommended by Molly) where each chapter is from a different characters perspectives which I always like. I was also very pleased when the beach bar brought me a JUG of Thai Tea instead of a glass, honestly don’t know why they would’ve done this because it’s so much liquid for a young woman to consume, but I persevered .
The tan lines were strong and the hangover was fading, so me and Teigan met up for a cold one on the beach where with one drink and I was nursed back to health. We went to this place called Ibiza Pool Party, honestly such a weird vibe but we were a few drinks in so had lots of fun swimming in the pool. We spent ages watching a fire show on the beach then headed on to an Irish Bar where we sat next to two lovely Irish blokes. There was a live singer doing up all the classics, even a bit of Chappel Roan – we may or may not have ended up dancing on the table at 9pm.
We headed to Freedom Bar for beach club vibes, and honestly I just laughed the whole night. Teigan got very drunk so I had to take her home but I managed to secure a toastie from 7/11 on the way back. Result.
For just 2 days in Phi Phi I had really put in the work with my tan (see tan lines above) and met lots of fun people. I don’t know if I could’ve done any more, so I prepared for my 9am ferry to Phuket.
